We are honored that you have selected our Christian Character Training Program for your child's care. We continue to receive exciting reports of what the Lord is doing among the preschoolers. Our aim is to provide a Christian atmosphere, which will lead your child into the ways of God and the words of the Lord Jesus Christ.
A handbook has been prepared in order to familiarize you with our total program. As a ministry of Soul's Harbor Free Will Baptist Church, our Christian Character Program is exempt from licensure by the State under Act 81-310.
In order to maintain our exemption, we are required to submit certain forms which are to be notarized in order to certify to the state that we have informed you that we are exempt from state licensure. The Christian schools of Alabama have worked and prayed hard for the passage of this law. We try to maintain a high standard of excellence in our child care ministry.
It is for this reason that each parent is required, by law to fill out a form stating that they have been informed that our Christian character Training Program is exempt from state license. Our daycare supervisor will help you complete this form.
We are proud to make the name of Christ known in all that we do and are praying that we can make the fullness of His riches known in your child and in your home!
Sincerely in Christ,
P.S. It is also required, by law, that we have your child's medical history form filled out and maintain a record of immunizations. Please ask the daycare supervisor for more information if you have not completed the necessary forms.
WELCOME FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Soul's Harbor Free Will Baptist Church is honored that you have chosen our Christian Character Training Program to help you care for and train your child to be all God Intended him to be. We hope to work with you in these early years of your child's life to provide the best care available outside your own home.
We not only desire to provide a good place for your child to be cared for, we want to give him a Christian staff that has a calling to this ministry, who loves children and are conscious of each child's needs spiritually, physically, and socially.
We also desire to minister to the entire family's need, especially their spiritual need. We plan to communicate Biblical principals to the family. We in tend to plant in you and your child's heart the Word of God, and to pray that God will cause it to be fruitful in your family life, that your home will experience all the joy God intended the home to have.
Thank you for the opportunity to be of help. May God bless our working together to rear the most precious possession we could have, our children!
Serving Jesus Really Pays,
VINEMONT CHRISTIAN ACADEMY'S STATEMENT OF FAITH
We believe in:
TYPE OF RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION
Our effort will be to train each child in God's ways and to point them to His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. We plan to do this through music and song, Bible Lessons, structured play, free time, mealtime, etc. The religious instruction and the academic program are inseparable. For this age group, the establishment of character is our top priority! How soon the child learns his ABC's is not as important as teaching him how to live.
TYPE OF ACADEMIC PROGRAM
The ability to comprehend facts is limited in relation to our ability to visualize words. Children cannot understand what they cannot get a picture of. It will be our aim to relate the character concept to learning content for purposes of illustration. Animals for example are illustrated in scripture as a means of pointing out character qualities.
Be it understood that we want our students to know specific character qualities, their meaning, their illustration in scripture, and their operation in life.
The foremost quality when dealing with children is ATTENTIVENESS (Heb. 2:1). They must first be taught to pay attention to you if they are going to learn from you.
For these reasons, we will use a loosely structured curriculum. The bulk of our academics will be taken from resources such as Accelerated Christian Education, A BEKA materials, and King James Version of the Holy Bible.
A BIBLICAL PHILOSOPHY OF DISCIPLINE
Proverbs 29:19, "A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer."
Proverbs 25:28, "He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls."
Proverbs 13:24, "He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes."
Ephesians 6:4, "And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nuture and admonition of the Lord."
STEPS OF DISCIPLINE OUR PROGRAM WILL IMPLEMENT
TYPE OF LUNCH PROGRAM
A snack at 9:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M.
A full, nutritionally balanced meal prepared and served hot each day for lunch.
For those who must stay late, there is another snack at 4:30 P.M.
There is a weekly menu posted on the bulletin board.
Parents must furnish infant bottles, ready to feed, in bottles. The staff does not mix and prepare bottles, and in compliance with Health Department rules, must discard all formula that child does not drink at any particular feeding. (We can not feed your child left over formula in a bottle.)
Parents must furnish baby food, cereal and diapers.
Staff is anyone who would be in the facility and could immediately assist in the supervision of the children if needed, and who could aid them in the event of fire or other potential disaster.
Ages 0-12 months: 1 staff per 5 infants
Ages 12 months - 18months: 1 staff per 5 children
Ages 18 months - 2 1/2 years: 1 staff per 7 children
Ages 2 1/2 years - 4 years: 1 staff per 11 children
Ages 4 years - 6 years: 1 staff per 18 children
Ages 6 years and older: 1 staff per 21 children
We believe your child is the most important gift (next to eternal life for those that will accept it) God has given you. Therefore, only Godly, dedicated, healthy, qualified people will supervise your child.
Let's look at each of these characteristics:
Each staff member is required to take an extensive training course provided by Accelerated Christian Education. The course sharpens staff expertise in areas such as educational philosophy, discipline, procedures training and interpersonal relations. Staff is provided with periodic update training and seminars.
Soul's Harbor Daycare is acutely aware that there may be communicable diseases that may prohibit a child from enrollment in our child care program. We regret that such situations exist in our country. Soul's Harbor has an obligation to protect enrolled children, daycare workers, and church staff from diseases such as AIDS, SYPHILIS, GONORRHEA, or other non-curable, communicable diseases. Children carrying these ot other non-curable diseases will not be accepted in Soul's Harbor Daycare. This policy applies to children already enrolled, or who wish to enroll, who are carrying or test positive for the presence of antibodies to the AIDS virus, (HTLV- 111 / LAV) or other non-curable diseases. Due to our obligation to present children, workers, and church staff, we cannot accept, nor retain, children in daycare, who are afflicted with these diseases.
Information about students having AIDS, or other communicable diseases will be kept in strictest confidence by daycare and church administration. Any information to be released will be done so only at the direction of the Pastor of Soul's Harbor Free Will Baptist Church.
(Example: Chicken Pox, Measles, Mumps, etc.)
If your child has, or is suspected to have, any contagious childhood disease, call the daycare supervisor for information on daycare attendance before bringing them to the daycare.
This daycare cannot administer any medication, diaper rash salve or cream, powders or sunscreen without written permission from the parents or legal guardian.
If you need our staff to administer medication to your child, you will need to fill out a medicine form. (Just ask one of our staff for a medicine form) On this form you will need to be sure to write the child's name, date, name of the medication, how much to give your child, when to give it to your child or how often, and also be sure and sign your name.
You may bring a note from home with the same information and give to the daycare worker instead of filling out a Medicine Form at the daycare.
The law makes it illegal to give medication to children in child care, other than as prescribed by the doctor or as listed on the label for over the counter medication, regardless of parental instructions or permission.
DIAPERING AND POTTY PROCEDURES
We check the children periodically to see if the child's underclothes/diapers are soiled.
If the child is wet, he/she is placed on the changing table; the diaper is removed. If child has soiled his/her diaper, we use disposable wipes to clean the diaper area. Some parents prefer their own brand of wipes and bring them for us to use on their child. For those parents who don't perfer a certain brand, we use wipes the daycare has supplied.
If the parents instruct our workers, we will put powder or salve, (that the parent supplies) on the child's diaper area if they have a rash or irratation. Parents must supply diapers for their own children. Our workers wash their hands in antiseptic soap after each change.
Parents should let workers know when they are ready to start potty training their child. We also will work with them to train the child in the following ways:
Even little boys are placed on the potty seat until they are older or better potty trained, then we teach them to stand on the floor in front of the toilet, as you would do at home.
When we are helping train a child to use the potty, we will stay close contact with the parents to be in keeping with what they are doing at home to potty train the child.
After the child is older, or better trained, we will start to let him/her go potty on their own, but will keep a close check on the child to help him/her with their clothes or with cleaning.
